Artist Statement
My interdisciplinary practice draws on both personal bodily experience and political contexts to investigate the power dynamic between the individual and the system, which comes from my urge for resilience after living and experiencing China’s dominating government system. My research revolves around the investigation of government violence, society of control, art & revolt. In facing recent major political challenges in China, I have centered my practice around making radical work in response to real-time socio-political situations, in hope of inspiring a better future for the Chinese society. The materiality of my choice often revolves around subjectivity, it varies from painting, performance art, and video art to photography and installation. Therefore, ideation comes first and materiality comes second. Audience engagement is often encouraged in my practice as it vitalizes the ideation of the work to be contagious. A key component in my practice involves embracing the ever-changing socio-political context, while conceptually developing ways to highlight the strength and agency of people in an everyday context.
